arrangement of scientific efforts to improve safety assessment methods for systems important to safety and implement up-to-date scientific and technical solutions aimed at improving NPP operational safety;
development of basic areas in NPP operational safety analysis;
operational experience feedback from NPPs of Ukraine and foreign countries to specify available and develop new criteria for reactor operational safety;
research on verification and validation of computer programs for calculation of non-stationary thermohydraulic processes during NPP operation;
development of data bank on change in neutronic and thermal reactor parameters in transients and emergencies to verify and validate dynamic computer codes. Verification of computer programs for non-stationary modes of reactor operation;
review of neutronic codes submitted to SNRIU to obtain authorization for their use in nuclear safety calculations for Ukrainian NPPs;
participation in development of SSTC NRS strategic and annual action plans;
development of scientific papers in the respective areas;
participation in national and international scientific conferences and topical workshops.
The Unit’s scientific potential and software allow solution of a wide range of NPP safety issues, verification and validation of computer programs for NPP safety analysis, revision of operating and emergency documentation, justification of neutronic and thermal reactor parameters in transients and emergencies, including expert and scientific efforts, development of computer models, verifying analysis, as well as development and improvement of methodologies. Besides support to SNRIU, the Unit’s scientific and technical capabilities are employed in scientific and research programs (including international research projects).
