A meeting with representatives of the Nuclear Power Institute of China (NPIC) under the Memorandum of Cooperation signed in June 2018 was held in the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) on 15 - 17 May.
The purpose of this meeting was to update the cooperation between SSTC NRS and NPIC and identify new advanced cooperation areas between the organizations.
During the meeting, the Ukrainian party made presentations on the topics to be discussed in accordance with the minutes signed in November 2018 during the visit of SSTC NRS delegation to Chengdu (PRC). In particular, the Head of NPP Safety Analysis Department in SSTC NRS Dmytro Gumeniuk revised the current cooperation status and made proposals for further strategic cooperation. In addition, SSTC NRS experts shared their experience in long-term operation of Ukrainian NPPs.
Representatives of the State Institution “Institute of Environmental Geochemistry” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (SI “IEG” of NAS of Ukraine) and Techneo Global Ltd also took part in the joint meetings.
SI “IEG” Director Yurii Zabulonov presented during the working meeting a review and capabilities of an unmanned aerial vehicle to perform radiation survey and monitoring, a technology of rapid (accelerated) radiation monitoring of environmental objects, the use of plasma chemistry to decontaminate radioactive water, and reliable disposal of radioactive salt melt using geopolymer concrete.
The director of SSTC NRS Slavutych Subsidiary Oleksii Nefiodov told about the experience in designing radioactive waste containers and the automated radiation monitoring system at ChNPP. He also brought to the attention of those present the information on the current decommissioning situation at Chornobyl NPP.
The Ukrainian and Chinese parties discussed the areas for further cooperation and set priorities, as well as developed a draft bilateral agreement on further cooperation as resulting from the activities performed during the week.
