The State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) pays great attention to training and professional development of personnel. According to SSTC NRS management, continuous skill improvement and moving forward are not only the requirements of today, but also an integral part of daily activities. Through partnership with the best European organizations, SSTC NRS experts are able to participate in a number of workshops, trainings, practical courses and programs.
In July, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) carried out a workshop “International Generic Lessons Learned on Ageing of NPP Equipment” within the International Generic Ageing Lessons Learnt (IGALL). Experts from the Czech Republic, Sweden, Austria, the Netherlands, the SNRIU, Energoatom, representatives of all operating Ukrainian NPPs involved into the ageing management of equipment and NPP long-term operation, together with Roman Moskalyshyn, Leading Engineer of SSTC NRS NPP Long-Term Operation Department, and Oleg Ponochovnyi, Head of SSTC NRS NPP Thermohydraulic and Probabilistic Safety Analysis Department Laboratory, participated in the workshop.
During the workshop, IAEA experts made a number of presentations, in particular on; the development of nuclear industry in the Netherlands, Sweden, Czech Republic; on the methodology for selection of equipment according to IAEA SSG-48 “Ageing Management and Development of a Programme for Long Term Operation of Nuclear Power Plants”; selection of components (important to safety that do not affect safety, components and structures considered in safety analysis, groups of standard equipment, lists, etc.); assessment of effectiveness of ageing management and ageing management programs; ageing management process (groups of standard equipment, technical state assessment, establishment of ageing effects/degradation mechanisms and development of relevant ageing management programs and time-limited ageing analysis (TLAA), periodicity of performance.
According to Roman Moskalyshyn, information obtained during IAEA workshop will allow better arrangement of an approach to the ageing management of NPP equipment due to the best international experience.
“Discussions held by the participants will help NPP personnel and experts of the technical support organizations to develop steps in improving their equipment ageing management programs”, Kari Mäkelä, Head of IAEA Delegation, noted.
