At the International Conference “Ukrainian Nuclear Forum 2019: Nuclear Energy – State and Trends of Development” conducted on 3-4 July 2019 in Kyiv, Ihor Shevchenko, Director of the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, presented the presentation “Preparation of the regulatory framework for implementation of a small modular reactors”.
The event was dedicated to 10th university of creation of Association “Ukrainian Nuclear Forum”.
The International Summer Nuclear School II “Design and Operation of VVER-type reactors. General aspects and Certain Questions” started its work on the basis of the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety. This year participants were students from eleven higher educational institutions of Turkey.
On 26 June 2019, Shandong delegation (China) visited the State Nuclear Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety. The visit objective was to familiarize the delegation with SSTC NRS capabilities and with current results of the Joint China-Ukraine Xianchu Nuclear Power Decommissioning Academy* activity. In the framework of this visit, the SSTC NRS and Xianchu Nuclear Power Decommissioning Academy signed the service contract on provision of emergency response and nuclear emergency management training.
Junior researcher of the NPP Thermohydraulic and Probabilistic Safety Analysis Department of the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) Anastasiia Ilina participated in the meeting of the Probabilistic Safety Analysis Working Group of the Forum of the State Nuclear Regulatory Authorities of the Countries operating VVERs (PSA WG of the VVER Regulatory Forum), which took place in Bratislava (Slovak Republic) in early June.
Experts of the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety participated in the tests of the Integrated Control System (ICS) of the New Safe Confinement (NSC), constructed over the destroyed ChNPP-4.
The results of the research on severe accidents at NPP were discussed on 3-6 June in Albuquerque, USA during the technical meetings on the Cooperative Severe Accident Research Program (CSARP) and on the MELCOR Code Assessment Program.
Recently, the IAEA expert mission at ChNPP was completed. Its purpose was to consider a number of issues on accumulation at the process material temporary storage site and the use of this site in the future.
On Monday, 10 June, the Partnership Agreement between the Energoatom, SSTC NRS and U.S. Holtec International was signed in Holtec International HQ in Camden, NJ, USA. This Agreement envisages formation of the international consortium aimed at promoting the implementation of SMR-160 Small Modular Reactor Technology (SMR) in Ukraine. The heads of the companies Yurii Nedashkovskyi, Ihor Shevchenko and Kris Singh signed the document.
On 13-17 May 2019, a training workshop on the applicability of regulatory requirements in implementing risk-informed approaches to maintenance optimization at NPPs was held in the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) in Upton (USA) as a part of the Ukrainian Technical Assistance Program of the U.S. Department of Energy.
A regional workshop on the development of safety justification and safety assessment of geological formations for radioactive waste disposal and activities on safe radioactive waste management was held at the end of May in Vienna (Austria) at the initiative of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Представники Товариства з безпеки установок і реакторів Німеччини (GRS) відвідали Україну. Вони взяли участь у низці зустрічей та нарад за спільними двосторонніми проектами із Державним науково-технічним центром з ядерної та радіаційної безпеки (ДНТЦ ЯРБ), обговорили актуальні питання двостороннього співробітництва та підписали Робочу програму співпраці між ДНТЦ ЯРБ та GRS на 2019 рік.
Experts of the Radiation Protection Department in the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) held advanced training course for employees of the State Institution “D. F. Chebotarev Institute of Gerontology” and representatives of the National Aviation University.
